Careless love – Dr.John piano solo from "Dr.John plays Mac Rebenack"

I’m still playing Dr. John’s “Careless Love” late at night.

These past few days, I’ve been transcribing the solo.

Even with solos I’ve listened to for years, I realize so many new things once I actually write them out.

For example, something that sounds really thick is actually played with just two notes.

And sometimes, when I play New Orleans riffs myself, they sound kind of uncool (well… honestly, pretty much always!).

But when I actually transcribe them, I notice all sorts of things.

I’m playing the same notes as Dr. John, but the timing of even one eighth note is different.

The whole phrase is actually syncopated.

I also realized the left-hand counter-phrases are super subtle and clever.

前回のブログに続いて、いまだ夜な夜なドクターのＣareless loveを弾いています。

ここ数日はソロを採譜しています。

昔から聴きなれていたソロでも、採譜してみると多くの気づきがあるものだなぁ。

例えば、分厚いサウンドに聴こえるが、実は二音で表現していたのか。とか。

ニューオリンズリフも、自分で弾いていてなんだかかっこ悪いと思うときがある。（というかいつもだが！）

実際に採譜してみるといろいろなことに気づく。

ドクターの弾く音と同じ音だけど、弾き方が八分音符一つ分、自分のは違う。

フレーズそのものがシンコペーションしている。

左手のカウンターフレーズも実は絶妙だってことにも気づきました。
