I tried transcribing the opening part of “Careless Love” from Dr. John Plays Mac Rebennack.

One big feature of Dr. John’s piano style is his left-hand 10ths, but with my hand size, it’s tough to copy them.

I can barely reach a white-key 10th or a black-key 10th, but when it’s D to F♯, I’m totally done for.

About Dr. John’s voicings—I really love how he puts the 3rd or 5th in the bass.

But when it comes to white-key or black-key 10ths, my hands just can’t reach them at all.

Dr.Johnが”Dr.John plays Mac Rebenack”で演奏するCareless Loveの冒頭部分を採譜してみた。

Dr.Johnのピアノの特徴ともいえる、左手の10度は残念ながら私の手の大きさでは再現が難しい。

白鍵どうしの10度や黒鍵どうしの10度は何とか届くが、レとファのシャープになるとお手上げだ。

ドクターのヴォイッシングについて、3度や5度の音をルートに持ってくるところが個人的には大好きだが、白鍵と黒鍵の10度は私の手の大きさでは全く届かない。

最初のFからC7のところで、Aの音を下に持ってきて、パッシングコードでAbからGをルートにしたC7にするあたりは単純だけど美しい。

D7でF#の音を下にするあたりは特にF#とAの10度は完全に届かない。
少しタイミングをずらして弾いたりしてうまいことやるしかない。

このバージョンは５小節目のAm7（はっきりAm7ではないけど）がほんのちょっとの変更だけど、ドクターらしくて好き。
